Qualifier Oli sets sights on champ in fairy-tale clash
BRITISH qualifier Oliver Tarvet earned a dream shot at defending Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz and insisted: “I can beat him.”
The 1,000-1 rank outsider from St Albans led a record seven British wins on the Championships’ opening day with his 6-4 6-4 6-4 victory against Switzerland’s Leandro Riedi.
And world No.733 Tarvet said: “You never know what can happen in tennis. I’m quietly confident I can win against anyone — and Alcaraz isn’t an exception to that.”
