A 25-year treasure hunt

DO YOU know how long Bargain Hunt has been going? Ten years, maybe? Twenty?Two hundred, you're suggesting? Now you're just being silly. No, the answer is 25. I know this for a fact because there’s a programme on BBC! this lunchtime called 25 YEARS OF BARGAIN HUNT (12.15pm) and on closer inspection I’ve noticed a clue in its title.

So how many memories does this birthday special (yes, today is the show’s actual birthday) bring back for me?

If I'm honest, very few. Daytime telly is something I try to steer clear of. Not because I look down on it — not in the least — but because I fear I'd find it addictive.

One thing I do know about shows such as Bargain Hunt, Homes UnderThe Hammer, Escape To Your Attic etc. is that they’re very easy going and unassuming, a refreshing alternative to some of the puffed-up, self-important guff we're subjected to most evenings. I love a bit of unassuming, matter-of-fact TY, the sort which is largely content just to keep us company.
