1.2m foreign citizens are on benefits

ANGRY Conservatives want an end to handouts for foreigners as it emerged 1.2 million are getting universal credit.

And they say this cash for 738,000 jobless non-UK or Irish citizens is "the tip of the iceberg".

Tory MP Nick Timothy told the Express: "We are spending billions more on other payments like housing benefit but the Government will not publish those figures.

"Benefits should only be available to citizens, and even then only to those who truly need the help. If that means many low-income migrants leave the country, that will be a good thing."

Labour last night vowed to tighten up the rules. But Reform UK leader Nigel Farage blamed the last government. He said: "The shameless Conservatives allowed all of this to happen on their watch.
