Cyber target: bank giant

- By Neil Pooran

MSPs have been told that NatWest has revealed it repels 100million cyber attacks trying to breach its defences every month.

It came as experts set out the “staggering” scale of digital crime.

It also blocks a third of emails, Holyrood's Criminal Justice Committee heard.

Gold scams and romance fraud are particularly prominent.

The trend rose sharply in the pandemic. In 2020 Police Scotland recorded 7,710 cyber crimes, in 2024 that increased to 18,280.
