Pension Funds Adjudicator orders R5 000 penalty for payment delays

A PENSION fund has been ordered by the Pension Funds Adjudicator (PFA) to pay a penalty of R5 000 to a member after delays in resolving a dispute over missed monthly pension payments, which the fund attributed to a bank technical error.
The complainant, a member of the Motor Industry Provident Fund from July 1997 until his retirement, has been receiving a monthly pension since March 2017. He lodged a complaint after failing to receive his pension from August 2024 to February 2025, despite having provided proof of his bank account details, which he said had already been furnished to the fund.
