Cardoso calls on Sundowns to lay down a marker against Chippa United

MAMELODI Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso is calling on his side to lay down a marker when they face Chippa United in their Betway Premiership opener at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium today (kickoff at 3pm).
Last year, Cardoso enjoyed a stellar debut season at Chloorkop, leading the Brazilians to a record-extending eighth league title, finishing 12 points clear of nearest challengers Orlando Pirates.
The defending champions have started the new campaign dominantly, cruising to a 4-0 win over Richards Bay in the MTN8 quarterfinal last week —a result that set up a semifinal showdown with Orlando Pirates.
Sundowns are aiming to replicate their strong start from last season, when they won their first four league matches before suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to Polokwane City in October 2024 — one of just three losses in the entire campaign.
