US tax on remittances may hit Indian households, rupee: GTRI

A proposed five per cent tax on remittances sent abroad by non-citizens is causing concern in India, as it could impact Indian households and pressure the rupee, economic think tank GTRI said on Sunday.

The measure is part of a broader legislative package titled “The One Big Beautiful Bill”, introduced in the US House of Representatives on 12 May.
