T'gana becomes 1st state to enact SC categorisation

The Telangana government has officially begun the implementation of Scheduled Castes (SC) categorisation, becoming the first state in India to do so, as announced by Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy.

This landmark decision follows the recommendations of a commission led by retired High Court Judge Justice Shameem Akther, which advised that the 59 SC communities be divided into three groups to allocate a total of 15 per cent reservation in government jobs and educational institutions.
