Pakistan seeks $7 billion bailout package from IMF

Economy at the brink as debts stand at USD 130 billion

Pakistan on Friday met with the officials of International Monetary Fund seeking a 7 billion dollar bailout package to rescue its teetering economy in the brink of bankruptcy amidst the ongoing military conflict with India.

Pakistan’s loans stands at USD 6.2 billion as of March 2025 with the IMF alone since it became a member in 1950 and World bank has given USD 48 billion dollars since. Its economy is surviving on handouts from countries like China, Saudi Arabia and Qatar and external foreign debt alone stood at USD 130 billion dollars.
