Red alert in 3 Kerala districts; 16 dead in Maharashtra

As monsoon rains caused widespread damage in Kerala, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued a red alert for eight districts of the state.
The IMD issued red alerts for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts and an orange alert in the remaining districts.
A red alert was issued for Idukki, Kannur and Kasaragod for 30 May and an orange alert for 11 other districts.
Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms with gusty winds will occur in in some parts of the state.
