Mexico confirms 1st human bird flu case

A 3-year-old girl from the western state of Durango is Mexico's first confirmed human case of bird flu, health officials have said.

Type A H5N2 influenza has been spreading through some birds in the state, some people in the United States. There have been 76 cases in that country during the past year, according to the World Health Organization. However, researchers and studies suggest that many cases have gone uncounted or unreported.
