ALTHOUGH the start of the new rugby union season is still a few weeks away, a couple more important pieces of the rugby jigsaw have quietly fallen into place.
For the players, pre-season training will officially begin on 1st July, whilst the first pre-season game against Wrexham has been pencilled in for Saturday, 9th August.
The club are actively seeking a second pre-season friendly as well as waiting to hear news regarding the outcome of the Lancashire Cup draw which is due anytime now, along with the release of the fixtures for the new R2NW campaign.
Following on from the announcement of the teams making up Regional 2 North West for the First Team, comes the news of the make-up of the Halbro North West Leagues for the 2025-26 season, which is of particular interest to the second and third teams at Widnes RUFC.
Following a terrific season last year under the guidance of Josh Kenyon, the 'Seconds' have been promoted and will play in Division One of the competition.
