Jacques takes on Linnets armband

IACQUES Welsh has been appointed as new first-team captain for 2025-26 season at Runcorn Linnets.
The midfielder did a great job as stand-in skipper in the second half of last season, when James Short was sidelined.
With Short facing a further extended injury layoff - he'll be out until at least Christmas - the armband has now been passed on to Jacques.
Welsh, who led the team to a memorable victory in last season’s Cheshire Senior Cup final, will have Peter Wylie as his deputy.
Experienced defender Wylie was captain in the first of his two spells with the club and is the reigning Supporters Club player-of-the-year, having in 2024-25 become only the sixth Linnets player to reach 200 appearances.
A club spokesman said: “We wish Jacques and Peter good luck in their roles and, of course, James a full and speedy recovery”
