Man taken to hospital after car hit building

Police cordon off the scene

A MAN was rushed to hospital when a car was crushed with bricks after smashing into a takeaway on Sunday (September 28).

Police, paramedics and fire crews raced to the incident on Bridge Street in Heywood shortly after 4am following reports that a car had struck a building.

Part of the building, the Heywood Star takeaway, had crumbled to the ground with bricks and debris strewn over the road following the crash.

Greater Manchester Police said that officers had originally been called out to a disturbance at a house.

A man left the scene in a car, and police began to pursue it before it careered off the road and struck the building at speed.

In a new statement, the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said they were called at around 4.40am and that the collision involved two vehicles.
