Borough naivety strikes yet again
Rochdale Observer
|May 17, 2025
Littleborough threw away a glorious chance to build on last week's great away victory at Lowerhouse with yet again another naive performance against a workmanlike Norden team at Hare Hill on Sunday.
Once is maybe excusable but this is the third naive performance out of five and that cannot continue.
Yet again, the tail folded like a pack of cards, losing the last five wickets for just 14 overs in the blink of an eye and gifting the visitors another two points, leaving a whopping three overs unused.
Yet again all the seamers failed to bowl in partnership, foolishly bowling for wickets, especially with such a low total on the board, when yet again they should have been bowling for dots, building pressure that would have seen Norden have to work a lot harder for victory which, on reflection, they just about deserved on the day.
Young Ben Williamson can be excused due to the fact that he is learning his trade, but there is no excuse for Ryan Miskella and Lewis Willman, who have yet to bowl in tandem all season and need to start leading from the front with the ball.
Hare Hill was looking splendid on a glorious, sunny day - Miskella won the toss and elected to bat.
Tahir Maqsood bowled impressively all day and got his reward when he trapped Dan Stevens in front for 15 with the score on 45.
The home side were in a decent position.
Jacob Kaye impressed and had looked comfortable reaching 27 before chipping Maqsood to Finn McKeown to give him his second victim. 60/2.
Louis Russell looked scratchy and he fell for just five with the score on 85.
