India's Unfulfilled Promise to Its Children

India, a nation that prides itself on its ancient wisdom and youthful energy, is failing its most vulnerable citizens-its children.

From the bustling slums of urban sprawls to the remote corners of tribal belts, the story is tragically similar: millions of children are being denied the basic foundations of a decent life. Education, health, and safety-the three pillars of a secure childhood-are crumbling under the weight of systemic neglect, indifference, and a profound lack of urgency.

Health Forgotten: The Emergency India Refuses to Name

India's children are not dying from rare or exotic diseases, but from preventable ones. Diarrhea, pneumonia, measles, and malnutrition continue to claim lives every single day. The statistics are a national embarrassment. According to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5), a staggering 35.5% of children under five are stunted (low height for age) and 19.3% are wasted (low weight for height), revealing a pervasive state of malnutrition. Even more concerning, 67.1% of children under 5 years are anaemic.
