PENSIONERS continue to face significant hardships due to Sassa’s recent migration from gold Sassa cards to new banking options, leading to delayed payments and financial distress.

Bhagat Singh, a pensioner from Westville, said he experienced multiple issues with the new system and with getting a black Post Bank card.

“The conversion to the black Post Bank card requires an ID, but our green ID book, as I was told, is not acceptable if it was issued prior to 1990, which mine is. This has caused untold hardship due to the fact that the new ID cards take a while to process and issue. Others, like myself, did not get our grants in April," said Singh.

He said as a result, newly-opened bank accounts were closed and the grants were returned to Sassa.

Singh said this prompted him to visit a Sassa office in Durban central.
