A YOUNG Chatsworth couple's Saturday night drive ended in tragedy when their vehicle lost control on the M1 eastbound, killing them and leaving two children, aged 3 and 5, without a mother.
The devastating accident has left two families struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss of Sashen Naidoo, an electrician, and his girlfriend, Nikyla Naidoo, the area manager for a cellphone company, both 27.
According to Amawele Emergency Services spokesperson Claude Subramodey, the couple were ejected from the vehicle and found metres apart - Sashan on the railway line and Nikyla on the highway - at the Westcliff off-ramp.
Sashan’s stepfather, Reggie Chetty, said both families had spent the day together before the tragedy.
“On the day of the accident, we spent the whole day with Nikyla’s family. Nikyla had won a trip to China from her work and wanted to celebrate,” he said.
Chetty said after the two children were put to bed, Sashan phoned his brother, Goldy, to tell him he was going to visit him in Unit 3.
“Goldy was the last person to speak to him.
