Toe Ruanda Snyman 20 jaar gelede in 'n ernstige motorongeluk betrokke was, het haar hele lewe verander. Bykans elke been in haar liggaam was gebreek en dokters het vir haar ouers gesê die kans om te bly leef, is skraal.
"Ek was 18 jaar oud toe ek en 'n vriend in die ongeluk was. Ek was uit die motor uitgeslinger en het in 'n sloot beland. Die eerste mense op die toneel het alles gesteel, selfs ons ID-boekies. Teen die tyd dat die paramedici opgedaag het, het hulle nie geweet daar is 'n tweede persoon nie, en hulle het net my vriend gehelp en hospitaal toe geneem."
Gelukkig vir Ruanda het daar 'n insleepvoertuig gekom om die toneel skoon te maak en dit is toe dat hulle Ruanda gewaar. Sy is na die naaste hospitaal geneem, maar dié het nie dokters of toerusting gehad om haar te help nie.
