Extreme risk wildfire alert

Warning to public not to use naked flames amid fears in dry conditions

Perthshire is at a very high to extreme risk of wildfires this weekend.

An extreme warning was in place for all areas of Scotland from yesterday (Thursday, May 15) to Monday May 19.

There have been numerous wildfires across Scotland this spring including one the size of two rugby pitches at Glen Finglas in the Trossachs caused by a disposable barbecue which killed nesting birds and other wildlife.

Earlier this month, a wildfire on Arran burned for five days and devastated part of Glen Rosa.

In April campers were rescued by helicopter from a blaze in Galloway Forest Park.
