Disappointing day for Saints
Perthshire Advertiser
|April 25, 2025
St Johnstone Women were looking to bounce back from a 6-2 defeat to Kilmarnock when they welcomed Boroughmuir Thistle to the Riverside on Sunday.
But they slumped to a heavy 5-0 defeat, despite the two sides being relatively evenly-matched in the opening exchanges.
The home side had some half-chances early on, with the best of these coming after 22 minutes when Steffi Simson was played through by Elvie McLean and her effort forced a save from Natalie Angelini in the Thistle goal.
The resulting corner saw some pinball played in the box as the ball was pinged back and forth between strikers and defenders, before eventually being cleared up the park.
It was from a corner that Boroughmuir took the lead in a 12-minute spell in the run-up to half-time where they scored four goals.
A corner from the left curled all the way to the back post where Becky Galbraith rose above the Saints defence to head the ball back across goal by Bobby Cochran.
Just three minutes later Galbraith’s second was near carbon copy.
