Concerns over shock closure of post office

Perthshire politicians expressed concern this week following the closure of Dunkeld and Birnam Post Office.

The branch, in Birnam, closed on Saturday, May 10 due to the resignation of a temporary manager.

The Post Office however insisted the closure period will be “kept to a minimum" pointing out that customers can use Murthly and Ballinluig post offices meantime.

Perthshire North SNP MSP John Swinney said: “This is disappointing news, and I share the concerns expressed by local residents.

“Access to Post Office services is vital for local communities - particularly residents who find it difficult to travel longer distances to alternate branches.

“I note that the Post Office are keen to reinstate this service within Birnam with minimal disruption.
