The Fish Hoek Deep South Lions Club mobilised an impressive community response following the devastating fire that left over 1 000 families in Masiphumelele homeless by donating 38 new mattresses on Wednesday 4 February.

Ingrid Russell, the club's projects convener, immediately reached out to Averil Thomas from nonprofit organisation (NPO) Living Hope to determine how the service club could most effectively support the displaced families during such a crisis.
The club is a community-focused service organisation based in the south dedicated to humanitarian aid, and specifically disaster relief, hunger and vision impairment.
