Vulnerable people live in terror

The City of Cape Town has responded to mounting complaints from residents of Salamander Road in Hout Bay following recent news article which highlighted the plight of resident Deidré Strauss, whose home has been flooded for the third consecutive year (“Winter sees homes under water” People’s Post’s 1 July).

Strauss told People’s Post she had suffered repeated water and sewage damage, with no meaningful assistance from the City. She also alleged her ward councillor had not visited the site in four years and referrals to Disaster Risk Management had brought little relief.

In response, the City said major upgrade work had already been carried out in the area in 2022.
