Ayunga insists Saints can beat relegation threat and land Scottish Cup glory

- COLIN PATERSON

Jonah Ayunga is determined to ensure St Mirren's “weird” season has a wonderful ending.

Saints have the League Cup sitting in the Greenhill Road trophy cabinet but find themselves embroiled in a Premiership relegation battle.

Ayunga (pictured) and his Buddies could reach the final of the Scottish Cup yet face a two-legged playoff to preserve their topflight status.

It has been a rollercoaster campaign but Kenyan international Ayunga reckons Saturday's 2-1 win at Falkirk - their first league victory on the road since September - can see 10th-placed Saints finish with a flourish on both fronts.

“Hopefully it will be and that we can also make our games at home count,” the 28-year-old said. “Anything we can get on the road will be a bonus.

“It’s been a weird season. When we were playing well at the start, we weren't getting a reward.

“You then go into a tougher period where you're not playing so well and not winning either.
