Weathervane will be back in a spin thanks to funding for repair work
Paisley Daily Express
|June 20, 2025
A century-old weathervane will once again soar proudly over the Paisley’s skyline as Renfrewshire Council commits to funding its repair.
The piece, which sat on the spire of Oakshaw Trinity Church until its removal in 2023, will be restored as part of £260,000 rescue package for the highest building in the town.
The money from the Paisley Common Good Fund and a possible grant from Historic Environment Scotland grant will cover the cost of “urgent repairs” to the steeple and the reinstatement of the weathervane.
This includes the replacement of all existing metal work inside the steeple, with a new vertical rod to support the restored weathervane; the reinstatement of the top four stone courses; the replacement of several decayed timber-framed windows; and the refurbishment or replacement of arched head windows and louvres at the bell stage.
The copper weathervane elements, currently in storage, will undergo individual repair and reassembly.
