Veterans deserve our support
Paisley Daily Express
|May 14, 2025
On Thursday, May 8, and throughout last week, we commemorated the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
It was the day in 1945 where victory in Europe was declared.
Across the length and breadth of the country, countless celebrations have marked this momentous occasion, and paid tribute to all of those who gave so much so that we could enjoy the freedoms we have today.
As your MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire South, I had the honour of marking this important milestone anniversary by visiting the VE Day anniversary celebrations in Johnstone on Saturday, May 10, in aid of The Homeless Veterans' Charity.
It was incredible to see the community come together to celebrate this anniversary, and to remember the sacrifices paid by those who protected the many rights and freedoms that we still hold dear 80 years on.
However, it is vitally important that our respect and support for those who have served our country, both in times past and present, does not stop short when active commemoration events pass.
It is a national outrage that this has not always been the case.
