UNLUCKY BLOW FOR SAINTS IN SCOTTISH CUP FIGHT

Kate Cooper believes St Mirren were unlucky to be dumped out of the Scottish Cup after losing 3-1 to Queen of the South.

The Buddies, who travelled to Palmerston Park on Sunday, were hoping to extend their stay in the competition but were beaten by their Barclays League One rivals.

Cooper’s side came from behind to equalise when Naomi McNeillie got on the scoresheet in the 55th minute.

However, the home side went back in front again thanks to a spot-kick around 10 minutes later.

Saints thought they were back on level terms when the ball was bundled into the back of the net to make it 2-2 but it was ruled out for a foul.

Queens then extended their lead with 12 minutes to go which saw Saints’ cup journey come to an end in the second round.

Head Coach Cooper felt fine margins were once again a factor in defeat but also pointed to the referee making a “tough call” to cancel out their second goal.
