Schools shake-up is 'biggest investment'
Paisley Daily Express
|March 09, 2026
A review of all of Renfrewshire's 62 schools last year found Johnstone High was also no longer fit for purpose and it, like the town's primaries, was added to the council's list of priority projects.
-
That review also identified Trinity High School as the number one priority as its school roll is expected to rocket by 200 over the next decade.
Renfrewshire Council revealed in October that the Glebe Street campus is not big enough for an extension or to build a new school on site, and so it is now considering a new-build at another location.
Three possible sites for a new school within the catchment have been identified as part of this latest tranche of work. They include: East Craigend in Erskine (land to the west of the A726 road); Barwood in Erskine (land at the northwest of town); and the previously mentioned King George V (KGV) playing fields in Renfrew.
As there is very limited available land in Renfrew, the impact on nearby Renfrew High was also considered.
It has been established KGV could offer a range of options, including a joint campus, should it need to, and these will be investigated further.
