Rail chiefs pay £3m

ScotRail has forked out more than £3m in compensation payments to passengers since the franchise was brought back under public control in 2022.

The payouts, uncovered by the Scottish Lib Dems, were made after services were either cancelled or severely delayed.

Passengers whose trains are delayed by more than half an hour can make delay repay claims.

The Lib Dems found that between April 2022, when the service returned to public ownership, and the end of October 2025 £3,089,106.54 was paid to passengers for late trains, reports the Daily Record.
