Plans for 100 homes rejected at meeting

Plans to build 100 homes at a site on the edge of Houston - which sparked hundreds of objections - have been refused by Renfrewshire councillors.

Miller Homes proposed the development, including a mix of detached and semidetached housing as well as flats, for land next to Barochan Road.

However, despite a recommendation from officers to grant the bid for planning permission, subject to conditions, it was rejected by a majority of elected members on Tuesday.

Councillor Andy Doig, an independent representative for Johnstone North and the surrounding villages, expressed concerns about the number of cars that could arise from such an estate.

Moving refusal of the application, he told the planning and climate change policy board: “The impact on our roads system is not viable and we have to look at how it would affect communities as a whole.
