New solar bins to be trialled in town centre
Paisley Daily Express
|May 26, 2025
Renfrewshire Council is preparing to begin a year-long pilot of solar compactor bins in Paisley town centre after a recent review of its provision.
Approximately 15 of the bins, which will “significantly increase waste capacity” and deploy digital technology to “optimise operational efficiency”, are set to be used as part of the trial period next month.
An update was provided on the initiative at a meeting of the local authority's infrastructure, land and environment policy board.
A report, which was discussed by elected members, explained: “The service has recently reviewed the provision of street litter bins in Renfrewshire to explore ways of enhancing service delivery and focusing more effectively on litter management.
“As part of this initiative, a pilot of innovative solar compactor bins will be launched in Paisley town centre.
“These bins significantly increase waste capacity and integrate digital technology to optimise operational efficiency.
