MSP's touching tribute on VE Day 80

Local MSP Paul O'Kane has paid tribute to his late Barrhead grandmother and the generation “who rebuilt this country” during the VE Day 80th anniversary debate at Holyrood.

The debate, which included contributions from First Minister John Swinney and Labour leader Anas Sarwar, saw many MSPs reflect on stories about World War ll and VE Day that came from their own families.

Mr O’Kane’s contribution focused on his late grandmother, who was born and brought up in Craigheads, and the efforts her own generation made after the conclusion of WWII.

Speaking in the debate Mr O'Kane said: "I have been thinking a lot about my grandmother today, who would have been 95 if she were still alive.
