Health and care service cuts branded 'horrifying'
Paisley Daily Express
|June 09, 2025
The alarm has been sounded over cost-cutting proposals that would impact vulnerable people and carers in a situation branded "awful" by a politician.
Stark detail has been published on a draft of measures suggested by Renfrewshire Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) as it looks to claw back a multi-million-pound budget black hole.
Documents released as part of the engagement process have provided grim substance to potential plans that were discussed at the integration joint board (IJB) - which oversees the HSCP - in December.
The range of services that could be affected in time cater to people with learning and physical disabilities and autism, older adults and children.
Councillor Iain McMillan, a member of the IJB, told the Express: "We can't continue like this, the impact it has on people is absolutely incredible.
"The usual line from a politician would be to say I'm not going to pre-empt any conversation but I know what people are going to be saying, they're going to be horrified.
"Officers will try to mitigate but some of the proposals are devastating.
"This is the frontline, these are services that affect people day in, day out.
