'Eyesore' roadside site to be revamped into services

A derelict petrol station in Johnstone is set to be transformed into a roadside services after plans were given the green light by Renfrewshire Council.

Grove Retail has been granted planning permission, subject to conditions, for a £1 million redevelopment of the former Benston garage in Beith Road.
‘The project will see the creation of a retail unit - which Tesco is expected to occupy - as well as car-washing facilities, a laundry unit, electric vehicle charging points and dozens of jobs.
Welcoming the decision, Councillor John Hood, who represents Johnstone South and Elderslie, said: “This is brilliant news.
“It will be good for the area. It has been an eyesore for a long, long time and the neighbours have complained about rats due to fly-tipping at the site.
