Drivers are ordered to slow down for major roadworks

Renfrewshire commuters are being reminded to expect yet more disruption as roadworks get underway near Hillington.

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking major bridge refurbishment which includes rail and slip road upgrades at junction 26 (Hillington Interchange).

And average speed cameras will be installed on the route to ensure motorists keep their speed down.

The £9 million scheme will be completed in five phases, with the first lasting from next Monday until Wednesday, October 1.

The five phases of works will include significant repairs, upgrades to four key bridge structures, addressing vehicle parapets, structure waterproofing, safety barriers and carriageway surfacing.

The project is due to be complete in spring 2026.

Phase one will see a 2+2 contraflow on the M8 at junction 26.

This will see the closure of lane two and lane three of the eastbound carriageway and narrow running lanes to facilitate.
