Councillors urged to put wheels in motion for new cycling event

Renfrewshire Council will today be urged to look into the viability of an organised cycling event in Johnstone town centre.

Independent councillors Andy Doig and John Hood will table a motion at the full council meeting, seeking backing to ask the events team to conduct a feasibility study into the prospect of a criterium in the area.

A criterium also referred to as a 'crit' is a type of bike race popular across the United Kingdom which entails a number of laps around a closed circuit. And the jubilant scenes in the town earlier this month following Johnstone Burgh's historic Junior Cup triumph have triggered the possibility of the town being a stage for sport.
