Cash will be put towards works on the public realm, larger bins, planters and trees in Barrhead town centre

- DREW SANDELANDS, LOCAL DEMOCRACY REPORTER

£300k splashed on nine projects

Work to improve Barrhead town centre and a project to enhance events space at Rouken Glen Park are among nine schemes set to benefit from Scottish Government funding.

East Renfrewshire Council's cabinet has agreed to share out £385,000 from the government's place-based investment programme.

Cash is being released in two tranches with the council receiving an initial £301,455. No date is currently set for the award of the further £83,545.

A call for proposals was issued to community councils, local groups, the third sector and council departments in February.

Funding requests totalled more than £920,000.

Six bids have been unsuccessful while four projects are now on a reserve list.

A council official said the fund continues to "provide an excellent opportunity to deliver investment to key areas across East Renfrewshire".

Under the first phase, a council project to improve Barrhead town centre has received £64,765.

It is set to include public realm works, larger bins, planters and trees. Another £10,827 could be provided from tranche two.
