University event aims to improve food security

EDGE Hill University experts have partnered with West Lancashire Council to lead action on improving food security in the UK.

Edge Hill's Greenhouse Innovation Consortium (GIC) collaborated with the council to host the Future State workshop aimed at tackling the needs and priorities of the nation’s agricultural economy and protected edible sector - fresh produce which is grown under cover in greenhouses or polytunnels.

As the demand for locally-grown, sustainable produce continues to rise, the sector has proven to be a critical part of the UK’s commitment to enhancing food security, reducing carbon footprints and supporting rural economies.
