Ormskirk Advertiser
|November 06, 2025
AN AMATEUR footballer and NHS worker suffered a fractured skull after he was punched and kicked in the head by a mob of spectators.
Richard Agbasoga was playing for Ormskirk West End against Calci Football Club at Wavertree Sports Park when he was badly injured after “12 spectators” rushed the pitch following an incident.
Mr Agbasoga, a temporary NHS worker from Ghana and international nursing student, doesn’t yet know the extent of his injuries and is being tested for damage to his sight and hearing.
However, it is understood he suffered a skull fracture by his left ear following the assault.
The attack followed an incident on the pitch which saw a teammate of Mr Agbasoga headbutted after a bad tackle.
The 27-year-old is believed to have reacted to the attack on his friend which is when the onlookers rushed onto the pitch and assaulted him.
