A legacy of power, struggles
Shibu Soren, the iconic tribal leader and founder of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), passed away at the age of 81, leaving behind a legacy that transformed tribal politics and led to the creation of Jharkhand.
Born January 11, 1944, in Nemra village of Ramgarh (then Bihar, now Jharkhand), Soren rose from personal tragedy and deep-rooted socioeconomic struggles. At 15, he lost his father, Shobaran Soren, who was allegedly killed by moneylenders—a turning point that propelled him into political activism.
