Tackling deepfakes: Denmark to grant citizens copyright over their face, voice

The Danish government is set to take action against the creation and distribution of AI-generated deepfakes by amending copyright law to guarantee individuals’ rights to their own bodies, facial features, and voices.
On Thursday, the government announced plans to enhance protections against digital impersonations in the first law of its kind in Europe.
With broad support from various political parties, the culture department intends to present a proposal for amending the existing law for public consultation before the summer break, with plans to submit the amendment in the autumn.
The proposed law defines a deepfake as a highly realistic digital representation of a person, encompassing both their appearance and voice.
