Chief Secy pitches for preventive vigilance

In a strong push towards clean and transparent governance, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja has called for immediate strengthening of Vigilance administration with a focused shift towards preventive vigilance.

In a directive issued to all Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, the Director General of Vigilance, Commissioner-cum-Secretaries, RDCs, and District Collectors, the Ahuja underscored the urgent need for systemic measures to curb corruption before it takes root.

Referring to recent cases unearthed by the Vigilance department, Ahuja stated that punitive action alone is insufficient.

“We must eliminate the root causes of corruption through a combination of administrative, legal, social, economic, and educative steps,” he emphasised.

Referring to the recommendations of Santhanam Committee, he urged departments to proactively identify vulnerable areas and risks before they manifest. “Preventive vigilance is about fixing the system—not just catching the wrongdoers after the incident,” he noted.
