2 ganja peddlers get 20 years RI

In a significant verdict under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the Second Additional District Judge-cum-Special Judge, Bhubaneswar, Saturday convicted two interstate ganja peddlers, sentencing them to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and imposing a fine of Rs 1 lakh each.

The court further ordered that in case of nonpayment of the fine, the accused would undergo an additional one-year of rigorous imprisonment.
The convicts, Anil Kumar from Uttar Pradesh and Ganesh Shah from West Delhi, were charged under Section 20(b) (ii) (C)/29 of the NDPS Act, 1985, for transporting contraband ganja from Odisha to Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
