War Rooms entering 'exciting new chapter' as land sale completed

THE first homes being built around the site of a Cold War nuclear bunker are expected to go on sale next year.

The Grade II listed Nottingham War Rooms is off Chalfont Drive in Beechdale. It was designed as a home for a regional commissioner and government staff who would have governed the region in the event of a nuclear attack.
The bunker, built in the early 1950s, features a BBC studio from where emergency alerts would have been broadcast. It was the third of 17 regional war rooms across England and Scotland.
Under the plans, which were approved in November, 104 affordable homes will be built around the site.
