Venue staff take action after accusing bosses of ignoring complaints

STAFF at Rock City have accused bosses of ignoring their complaints.

Disgruntled employees have hit out at the city centre music venue, claiming their attempt to unionise and improve working conditions is not being given enough attention.

A group of workers have said DHP Family - which runs the Talbot Street venue - is refusing to meaningfully engage with union Unite.

One staff member, who wanted to be referred to as Michael, said: "We have had many issues and complaints over the years which we collectively feel have been ignored, so we made the decision to unionise.

"We are fighting for better pay, working conditions and for the ability to have a say in how the company treats us. Across my years of working at Rock City, the collective opinion of the staff is that across the years, things have progressively got worse and worse."

The employee said it was upsetting DHP was not interested in recognising the union voluntarily, adding there was an "established precedent of concerns and complaints being ignored, mocked and swept under the rug".

A spokesperson for Rock City said: "We're aware a small group of staff are seeking union representation through Unite.
