TRIO AGED 20-23 ARE LOCKED UP FOR A COMBINED TOTAL OF ALMOST 15 YEARS

Student fought knife-wielding robbers who burst into room

THREE knife-wielding robbers filmed themselves after forcing their way into a university student's room, holding the blade to his throat and demanding cash.

Nottingham Crown Court was told how brothers Jonel and Jaheem St Catherine, along with friend Solomon Schaaf, passed the blade around between them saying to the young man "I promise I am going to do this to your face".

Despite him bravely fighting back and chasing them down a stairwell where he was further attacked, they then managed to get into his phone and transferred £1,900 from his bank account into their own.

The student said he was not scared he would be stabbed by the trio but has since lost his university place due to the financial loss he suffered.

Now the gang has been put behind bars for a combined total of almost 15 years.

Sentencing the trio, Recorder Luke Blackburn said: "This is a sad case, not only for the victim and not only for you three defendants, but also your families who I am not surprised to see have come in numbers to support you.

"The overall picture I have of you is that you are three men who are not in the habit of being criminals and all of you have shown ambition in your lives, I have read about university courses and full-time work.
