COUNCIL EXPLORING FUNDING OPTIONS TO RESTORE £1M FEATURE

NOTTINGHAM’S Old Market Square fountains have been inactive since 2022, after a faulty electrical system led the council to reassess their future.

But Nottingham City Council has confirmed it is exploring options to seek funding for the return of the £1 million city centre feature.

Restoring the fountains previously appeared in Nottingham Labour group's manifesto, but then council leader David Mellen told the Post the council didn't “have the resources.

Introduced after a revamp in 2007, the Old Market Square has seven fountains. They were shut off in June 2022 after water leaked into the electrical room below the feature, creating a potential safety risk.

After confirming the permanent closure the council stated it would save £30,000 in maintenance fees annually.
