SHE HADN'T CHECKED HIS HISTORY AFTER WAREHOUSE ASSAULT CASE
PC Libbie Taylor, of Leicestershire Police, giving evidence to the Nottingham Inquiry
AN inexperienced police officer failed to spot a future killer's outstanding arrest warrant after he assaulted a couple, weeks before he took the lives of three people.
Valdo Calocane assaulted the pair, who were his work colleagues, just five days into his job as an agency warehouse operative at Arvato, based in Kegworth.
Leicestershire Police officers PC Libbie Taylor and PC Connor Amos-Perkins were sent to the scene on the evening of May 5, 2023, but Calocane had already been escorted by security off the site and could not be found.
The Nottingham Inquiry heard yesterday that one of the victims was punched twice in the head and face, while his wife was also pushed to the floor by Calocane, who was described by witnesses as very aggressive and violent during the seemingly unprovoked attack.
PC Taylor was a probationary constable at the time of the assault and had only completed 12 operation shifts before she was put in charge of the case, the inquiry heard yesterday.
The officer explained that she and PC Amos-Perkins, who was her tutor and was also present at the scene, tried to communicate with the couple who were assaulted by Calocane through an interpreter but this proved difficult.
Yesterday, a warehouse worker called Louisa told the inquiry she noticed PC Taylor only made brief notes on her notepad while she was at the scene.
