'Regret' as Reform councillor steps down after only a week

A NOTTINGHAMSHIRE Reform councillor has stepped down only a week after he was elected as he felt he was “unable to deliver” what people need.

Desmond Clarke won his seat for Newark West on Nottinghamshire County Council in the May 1 elections. He was one of 40 Reform councillors who were elected during the party's landslide win, granting them the power to run the county council on their own. But Reform UK Newark announced yesterday that Mr Clarke has stepped down. A Facebook post reads: “It is with regret that we have to report that Councillor Desmond Clarke has today decided not to take up his position as elected councillor for Newark West in the new Nottinghamshire County Council.
